Underwater profile | wing keel |
Finish | Gelcoat finish |
The hull has a raked bow with a rounded forefoot, a cruising keel in a winged configuration, a skeg hung rudder and a walk-down (reverse) transom. Unique features include a powerful retractable bow thruster, and the Amel "U Drive" propulsion system with the propeller parallel to the water line on the trailing edge of the keel. This not only enhances the efficiency of the propeller but also eliminates a lot of the noise and vibration. The deck has a center cockpit layout with a hard fiber glass dodger providing a fully weather protected helm station. There are huge lockers in the bow, the cockpit and the aft deck to stow all the items necessary for long term cruising.
The hull and deck are each a one-piece laminated structure, comprised of layers of flat woven bi-axial fiberglass cloth in modified polyester resin with gel coated exterior surfaces. All structural laminates in the hull are one piece, non spliced, runs of cloth going alternatively from bow to stern and then athwart ship from bulwark to bulwark. All structural laminates and all structural bulkheads are installed while the hull is still in the mold. The hull and deck assemblies are laminated together to form a homogeneous one piece structure also while the hull is still in the mold. The deck assembly is cored with vertical end grain segmented balsa core in strategic areas for enhanced strength and insulating properties. Ballast is exterior, secured in place with 12 keel bolts.

Broker's Comments
The Amel Santorin "the baby Amel" was the first of the "modern" range - Santorin, Super maramu, Super Maramu 2000, and Amel 54, with the "U"drive and all the classic Amel features. Anyone who spends some time on one of these superb cruising yachts will soon realize just how practical and well thought out they really are. This one has already carried her owners safely 3/4 of the way around the world and has recently been fitted with new Volvo engine, located in a very spacious engine room with easy access to all equipment. She is equipped with the Amel "ballooner" system which incorporates double head sails on the head stay and twin poles to make an easily controlled "Goose wing" sailing rig that can be set, reefed and furled from the cockpit once the poles are in place.
She comes in the words of the owner with "a plethora of spares for most things, a selection of tools, linen, crockery & charts etc.
Well worth viewing and sensibly priced, offers on the asking price may be considered.
