No it’s not in Essex but it’s another great British boating event and it makes a change from the Olympics!

Cowes Week is one of the UKs longest running sporting events and traditionally takes place after Glorious Goodwood and before the Glorious Twelfth (the first day of the grouse shooting season). This year the date has been changed to avoid a clash with the Olympic Games.

In 1826 the first race of just seven yachts was for a Gold Cup of worth £100. Since then it has grown in popularity and fame, and become a regatta of more than 1000 boats and around 100,000 spectators are expected to visit the event this year.

The boats range from high-tech racing machines to classic day boats and are split into up to 40 classes. While competitors include Olympic and World Champions it is open to sailors of all abilities.

If you’re based near Cowes, you may already be familiar with our Boatshed team Andy and Hadley. Obviously Boatshed Cowes is a very busy office at the best of times, so call in advance if you’d like to arrange a viewing. Boatshed has offices all over the world which is why we can offer a global service with the benefits of local knowledge.

However, if you’re staying local to Essex this summer you could do worse than browse our own collection of boats to get you into the spirit of things. We have boats to suit all budgets and tastes, and if you’re a beginner why not find your nearest boating or sailing club on the RYA website?

You don’t need to be competing professionally to enjoy the sociable aspect of being on the water! If this summer’s got you dreaming of the open waves then we have an Essex broker near you who would be delighted to advise you. If you have a boat for sale we'd be delighted to take it on brokerage for you.
