While in many areas we are going big, in others small is better. Digital Yacht has teamed up with SIMY to create what they say is the world’s smallest AIS MOB Beacon. The AIS MOB100 Beacon incorporates a 72 channel GPS and AIS SART transmitter. When activated, it sends the MOB casualty’s current location as an AIS transmission which can be detected by any vessel equipped with an AIS transponder or even a simple AIS receiver. Optional devices like Digital Yacht’s AIS LifeGuard can also automatically sound an audio alarm to alert the crew of the emergency MOB situation. The MOB100 measures 115 x 40 x 22mm and weights 95g.
Mercury Marine has announced the launch of the 400hp Verado outboard engine, the company’s highest horsepower Verado branded outboard engine in its portfolio.
“The acceptance of the 350hp Verado in the marketplace has been incredible and through extensive conversations with our global customers, we have learned that there is an appetite in the marketplace for a Verado-branded 400hp four-stroke outboard engine,” said John Pfeifer, Mercury Marine president. “As boats continue to increase in size, so has the need for more power. This gives us an opportunity to provide an even higher horsepower Verado in the market, providing the durability and reliability that the Verado brand is known for around the world.”
Marlow Ropes has launched the first premium sustainable mooring rope made using 100 per cent recycled plastic.
The Blue Ocean Dockline is the first ‘technically better’ premium dockline rope manufactured using yarn wholly made from plastic bottles and is the result of the development and production of recycled polyester (rPET) yarn combined with Marlow’s engineering expertise .
And this week sees Susie heading past New Zealand in an incredible 4th place - made even more interesting, by Jean-Luc Van Den Heede, in 1st place, receiving an 18 hour time penalty for improper use of his sat phone!
