Remembrance Day on the Cut

Wednesday, 07 November 2012

One of my favourite books is Ramlin Rose, the Boatwoman’s Story, by Sheila Stewart. In the early 1990’s the author interviewed whatever boatwomen she could find in the Banbury area; women who were born and bred on horse-drawn boats. She then compiled these real life experiences into the life story of a fictional character ‘Rose Ramlin’.

New Instructions – Halmatic 30 for sale

Tuesday, 06 November 2012

Boatshed Dartmouth are delighted to offer for sale a Halmatic 30. First launched in 1979 the Halmatic 30 shares the same timeless seagoing qualities of the Nicholson 31. She is a heavy displacement cruiser with a high ballast ratio. In total over 200 were built. This Halmatic 30 has been in the same ownership since new. Unusually therefore I have on file much of the original documentation. She is now in need of a new owner to breath new life into her but once she has been updated she should be good for many years to come.
Appointments to view can be booked in advance 6-days a week directly with Paul Singer your Boatshed Dartmouth broker.

A Real Gem...With A Ketch!

Friday, 26 October 2012

At Waterline Boats / Boatshed Seattle we watch internet traffic as a key indicator, and have highly sophisticated tools to assess traffic. One of our most frequently viewed vessels is this lovely 46 foot wooden ketch built in 1986 in Oswego, Oregon. She was displayed in August at the Vancouver Wooden Boat Festival and the Port Townsend Wooden Boat Festival where she was a definite attention-getter.

Can you imagine what its like to have to abandon ship?

Friday, 26 October 2012

Should a vessel sink or catch fire you could face the reality of having to get into a life-raft. Liferafts are often the last resort for survival in such circumstances. Liferafts are small, cramped and conditions inside are cold, wet and uncomfortable.

In the last six months, further compelling reasons have emerged to make the Gibraltar Red Ensign the flag of choice. However, these changes aside, Gibraltar already has a host of advantages for registering a yacht in this unique southern European territory:

New Instructions – Sadler 32 for sale

Monday, 15 October 2012

Boatshed Dartmouth are delighted to offer for sale a Sadler 32. The Sadler 32 evolved from the hugely successful Contessa 32, also designed by David Sadler. The Contessa 32 was a real classic of its time, with elegant lines, low profile and superb heavy weather performance. However, in 1979 David Sadler designed the Sadler 32 to deal with the shortcomings of the Contessa 32, being limited accommodation through low headroom and narrow beam, sluggish light weather performance and rolling downwind. The result was the Sadler 32, which embodied several innovative features and represented an important "milestone" in cruising yacht design. About 300 Sadler 32s were built over a ten year period from 1979 to 1989. The boat proved enormously popular and is one of the best cruiser/racers still available today. This example was one of the last to be built by Sadlers and has had just one owner from new. She is well presented and has been well maintained

New Instructions – Jeanneau Arcadia for sale

Sunday, 14 October 2012

Boatshed Dartmouth are delighted to offer for sale a Jeanneau Arcadia. The design does not really date at all and down below the open plan layout is full of plenty of wood. The aft cabin and separate heads to starboard ensure good space for family or friends. There are folding doors to shut off the forecabin so its not completely open plan. In summary, overall a good design with no surprises. And I suspect she has quite a decent turn of speed as well.
