Boat of the Moment: Regal 1900

Tuesday, 10 July 2012

Our boat of the moment is this immaculate Regal 1900LE with a Fastrac Hull. She is a superb bow rider with just 20 hours of use from new. The engine incidentally is the 225Hp version capable of a top speed of 55mph. When tested by boattest they found that it will plane in 3.2 seconds and reach 30mph in 6.5 seconds - not bad!

Dibitu goes home

Tuesday, 10 July 2012

59ft Pat Buckle Narrowboat Dibitu is going home. After more than ten years exploring the waterways of France NB Dibitu has been sold by Boatshed Bourgogne and is returning to the UK. Excited new owners Steph. & Morris Abbott eagerly awaited the arrival of their new acquisition due to arrive in the Milton Keynes Marina just one day after being lifted out in Roanne central France. Neither the vendor nor the new owners could be present for the lift out so Boatshed Bourgogne organised it and Graham attended the operation and prepared the boat for her journey. The lift out was done by the society Lavenir of La Paccaudière and transport assured by CPL of both of whom worked together like parts in a Swiss watch. Our thanks to them for their professionalism and to the marina manager for his kind assistance. Both Magali and Graham of Boatshed Bourgogne wish Steph and Morris every happiness and many years of happy cruising with Dibitu.

New Instructions – Super Seal 26 for sale

Friday, 06 July 2012

Boatshed Dartmouth are delighted to offer for sale a rare Super Seal 26. Designed by Ron Holland and built originally by John Baker just 100 were built before the rights were sold to Parkers. They then continued the design as the Parker 27, after various interior layout changes going on to become the Parker 27. They are known for being fast little yachts with the distinct advantage of a very shallow draft (just over a foot) and a good interior layout. This example appears to have been very well looked after and the Yanmar engine install in 1997 looks particularly impressive. In December 2000 "Sailing Today" magazine listed the Super Seal as one of the "top five used boats of the year", along with some old favourites such as the Contessa 32 and Elizabethan 30. Their review gave it five stars for performance, and four for accommodation, which they described as ".... much better than you would expect in such a fast boat." Incidentally, the RYA quote a Portsmouth Number of 976, making her faster than a Contessa 32, and also faster than many 34 foot cruising yachts!

My Boating Top Five

Wednesday, 04 July 2012

4th July in the year 2000 was Independence Day – for me. As a young twenty something I became a proud home owner for the very first time, and that home was a 45 foot red narrowboat called Emily Rose. I knew very little about boats but I’d met some friendly boaters on the towpath and they introduced me to their mates, and they were all glad to share their boating wisdom and advice with me. I learned to steer a boat, tie knots, check the oil and recognise the sound of a loose fan belt. And yet other things beneath the deck-boards remain a mystery to this day; some things are better left to the experts!

New Instructions – Salcombe Launch 16 (ex demonstrator) for sale

Tuesday, 26 June 2012

Boatshed Dartmouth are pleased to offer for sale an ex-demonstrator model of the Salcombe Launch. The Salcombe Launch was originally designed by one of Salcombe’s best known shipbuilders, Edgar Cove. The Salcombe Launch has a displacement hull, a high freeboard and a spacious deep interior, making it dry and very stable. The traditional transom-hung large rudder with tiller steering makes the boat easy to manoeuvre in any conditions. There is ample stowage in lockers forward, aft and under the cockpit seats. She is fitted with mahogany rubbing strakes, stainless steel deck fittings and the 13.5hp Beta inboard sits in a sound-proofed moulded engine box. This example is available now as an ex-demonstrator with considerable savings on the new price and comes complete with sprayhood and cockpit cushions (usually extras). These really are stunning looking boats and feedback I have received from owners is nothing short of glowing in every respect. Viewings are by prior appointment with your Boatshed Dartmouth broker, Paul Singer and are available 6-days a week.
